What a weekend to celebrate all things fly fishing! The American Museum of Fly Fishing’s Open House Festival Weekend brought our community together in Manchester, Vermont, for history, art, storytelling, and the first look at our newest exhibition, Foundations in Flow: The Four Pillars of Fly Fishing.
On October 17, AMFF welcomed hundreds of visitors for a free day of activities, including fly-tying demonstrations, fascinating talks on Louis Rhead (led by Dave Bush and in conjunction with his guest exhibition in our library) and Mary Orvis Marbury (led by author Steve Woit), a behind-the-scenes exhibition tour with Curator Jim Schottenham, a rod maker discussion with local bamboo rod expert Jim Becker, and interactive art and writing workshops led by Samantha Aronson and Matt Smythe—both incredibly talented and creative personalities in the fly-fishing world. We also celebrated the unveiling of our new Kids’ Creel exhibit with artist and author Steven Weinberg, giving our youngest visitors a special place to explore and interact with the world of fly fishing.
A huge thank you to all of our presenters and partners, including our fly tyers, Chris Del Plato, Jon Larrabee, Bill Newcomb, Ted Patlen, Mike Stewart, and our steadfast community sponsors: Orvis, Rockwall Property Maintenance, Northshire Networks, rk Miles, Mulligans and Express Copy.
Missed the fun? There’s always so much to discover at the Museum. Come see Foundations in Flow: The Four Pillars of Fly Fishing every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10:00am – 4:00pm est.
