The Vom Hofe family of reel makers produced some of the finest fly reels ever made in the United States. Julius Vom Hofe, son of reel maker Fritz and brother of Edward, was responsible for numerous design and mechanical improvements, including the “perforated rim” series of fly reels. Examples can be found with various construction materials, such as hard rubber and German silver, nickel-plated brass, and gunmetal-finished brass. This reel, circa 1915, is a very popular reel among collectors today.
